Five Charged After 'Major' Queensland Cannabis Plantation Seizure

Five Charged After Major Queensland Cannabis Seizure
Police in Queensland said five men were charged after an estimated AU$1.7 million worth of cannabis was seized from a plantation in a rural area west of Brisbane on May 17.
Detectives said they executed a search warrant at two properties in Lockyer Valley, and discovered 4,725 cannabis plants of varying sizes, along with a hydroponic system, growing chemicals, irrigation, and machinery. Police also seized 28 kilos of dried cannabis, they said.
Five men, ranging in age from 21 to 46, were charged with drugs offenses and were due in Ipswich Magistrates Court on May 18. State Drug Squad Detective Acting Inspector Stephen Thiry said police allege both properties were used by a criminal syndicate for the large-scale production of cannabis.
