Cannabis News: Maine Police Officers Caught

A dozen police officers were caught in Maine for their involvement in an illegal cannabis operation that sold over $13 million worth of product to the state’s medical program.

The Maine Chiefs of Police Association said the officer involvement was quote “very upsetting.”

Tipped off by two of their fellow officers, these police used non-traditional methods to acquire information, including accepting brand new cars and ownership interests for confidential information.

The officers operated a corporate front for their business and sold cannabis registered to legal caregivers outside of the legal market, falsifying hundreds of tax documents to hide the funds.

“The Maine Chiefs of Police Association has always stood for equal application of the laws to everyone in the state of Maine, and we are confident in the next phase of the judicial system to adjudicate this case accordingly,” said Augusta Police Chief Jared Mills.
