Cannabis Compounds Stop COVID-19 From Entering Human Cells, Study Reveals
Could the key to beating COVID-19 be marijuana? More Details: https://www.studyfinds.org/cannabis-compounds-stop-covid/
Certain cannabis compounds can stop COVID-19 from entering human cells.
That in a report at StudyFind.
Researchers from Oregon State University find that a pair of cannabinoid acids in (hemp) bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, consequently preventing a critical step in the COVID-19 infection process.
More specifically, those two compounds are CBGA and CBDA. The spike protein that those two cannabinoid acids bind to is the very same viral destination COVID-19 vaccines and antibody therapies target.
Scientists say these cannabinoid acids are abundant in hemp and in many hemp extracts.
A researcher with Oregon State’s Global Hemp Innovation Center at the College of Pharmacy and Linus Pauling Institute Richard Van Breemen says – QUOTE – “They are not controlled substances like THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, and have a good safety profile in humans. And our research showed the hemp compounds were equally effective against variants of SARS-CoV-2, including variant B.1.1.7, which was first detected in the United Kingdom, and variant B.1.351, first detected in South Africa.”
While Van Breemen concedes that new COVID variants are always possible, he believes a combination of vaccination and CBDA/CBGA treatment should make viral survival much harder for SARS-CoV-2.
