Cannabis Research Could Be Added to Defense Bill

0

Earlier this year, a bipartisan group of senators again introduced legislation to allow more research of cannabis and its compounds.
Although the idea enjoys broad bipartisan support, getting the measure through Congress has proven to be tricky.
The Senate and House passed different versions of the bill in the last legislative session, and this year’s version languished at the committee level.
Proponents hope a procedural move could ease the bill’s passage, Marijuana Moment reports.
Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, filed an amendment to attach the language to a must-pass defense spending bill.
It remains to be seen what cannabis-related language, if any, will be included in a final bill.
The House added long-awaited cannabis banking changes to its version of the bill.
In the Senate, however, top Democrats reportedly want a broad overhaul of the nation’s cannabis laws to take priority.
